Mission Statement:

"The St. Marcelline ASP Group is a youth-based ministry. The focus is to create relationships among its members while learning 'a little construction on the side.' Teaching a very dedicated group of teens and adults to work in partnership, learn about the culture of Appalachia, and strengthen their faith prepares them to serve the needy families of Appalachia, their community, and each other. The St. Marcelline ASP Group allows everyone to have fun and feel accepted while trying new things. This experience reminds its members to be grateful to God for the blessings in their lives and encourages the members to become very comfortable while loving and serving."

About Us:

St. Marcelline has served with the Appalachia Service Project, ASP, since the summer of 2000. ASP is a youth-based ministry dedicated to serve needy families throughout the Appalachian Mountains. This region of the United States has some of the most poverty stricken areas of anywhere in the world.

Each and every year our teen and adult members bring back stories and memories of events and people that have changed their lives forever. We have traveled to Kentucky, Tennessee, Virginia and West Virginia to help families that don’t have the resources or the abilities to make their own home repairs.

It has been said the ASP is a “relationship ministry with a little bit of construction on the side.” That can be misleading. Our groups have completed a variety of projects over the years, from repairing or replacing roofs to installing new bathrooms, carpeting and reinforcing foundations. This ministry is open to all High School students. One does not have to be a member of St. Marcelline, or be Catholic. The only criterion is to believe that safe and affordable housing is a right everyone should enjoy.
